We are proud to highlight our role as the vision AI supplier for DERO GROEP’s newly introduced bin-picking robot cell. A major step forward in flexible, high-throughput automation for the food industry.

Advanced vision AI at the core

DERO GROEP’s new system automates the picking of fragile or frozen products — such as vegetarian schnitzels — from crates and places them with high precision into packaging trays. The solution is designed for environments where product variability, hygiene requirements, and process reliability are essential.

The robot cell integrates Fizyr’s cutting-edge 3D vision and decision-making software, enabling the system to:

  • Accurately detect item position and orientation in cluttered, variable bins
  • Perform real-time optical quality checks to ensure only acceptable products are packed
  • Recognize frozen-together products, preventing over-picking or product damage
  • Adapt to different product types and presentation states, supporting true production flexibility

These capabilities allow the robot to consistently handle delicate food products with high accuracy, even under challenging frozen or tightly packed conditions.

Designed for speed and hygiene

DERO GROEP’s mechanical design prioritizes accessibility, cleanability, and reliability — all essential in food processing environments. Combined with Fizyr’s robust vision AI software, the system is engineered for minimal downtime, strong performance stability, and seamless daily operation.

The video below shows the Proof of Concept, which is currently being developed into a fully-fledged application that can process  up to 240 items per minute.

The Fizyr OS vision AI component ensures the picking remains precise and dependable across all operating speeds.
